Chris Donatiello, Owner/Winemaker

Chris Donatiello made his name in the sales and marketing side of the wine business in New York City.  He moved to California to chase the dream of starting his own label, focusing on pinot noir and chardonnay.  His first release was the 2006 vintage.   In keeping with his entrepreneurial spirit, in 2011, Chris spun C. Donatiello out of a larger wine company where he first created the brand, and has been able to remain true to his vision of small production and single-vineyard focused wines.  As a result, the wines show more intense character than ever before.

The goal at C. Donatiello is to make elegant, balanced wines from the Russian River Valley appellation.  Of prime importance is site; Chris has long term contracts with small, family-owned vineyards that are farmed using sustainable practices. In the winery, fermentation is a very natural process, using ambient yeasts only and never adding enzymes or tannins.  The Pinot Noirs are fermented 30% whole cluster and the Chardonnays are barrel fermented in French oak.  The wines are bottled before harvest to preserve freshness and vibrancy.

Split Creek Farms is the winery's "second label," offering quality wine with impressive packaging, at a very attractive price point.
